I only support what this video is trying to make you think about. I know nothing further from the author or supporters of this video. I share it with you for you to think about what is going on around you.

Are you ready for austerity? Do you think what is happening in Greece can’t happen to us?

Just think about this: in 1964 a Us Quarter Dollar was made of 90% real Silver, that silver was worth about $0.25 which could buy a gallon of gas. Today that same quarter if melted down for it’s silver content is worth around $4 to $5. Same price as a gallon of gas. How much could gas could you by with that quarter as US currency? The value of the gas has not changed. But the value of our money has. since 1918 when the Federal Reserve was created our money has been loosing value. It is what Ron Paul was able to get the Federal Reserve Chairman to admit was a “hidden” tax.

Wake up, Take the “Red” pill to coin a phrase from “The Matrix” movie. See how deep the rabbit hole goes.

I came across this article in yahoo news and found it quite sobering.
http://yhoo.it/nLVF2I

This article is talking about statistics that show that more and more Americans are falling in to poverty and can’t afford to put food on the table. They also can not afford to go get basic medical care. If you watch the mainstream news everything seems to be stable or getting better. It’s almost as if the mainstream media are saying “Move along, there’s nothing to see here.” trying to shuffle us back to our lives hoping that most of us won’t see the alarming treads that are showing that our country is in a serious world of hurt.

Tomato from my garden

We have to begin working on feeding ourselves. Back in my Great grandfathers day, everyone had a little garden of food. Up until the day he died he had a little patch of land that he grew various veggies in. My favorite was Rhubarb because from that Rhubarb came my favorite pie Rhubarb pie. (Now I know that there was a ton of sugar that went into that pie to give it the lovely sweet and sour taste.) But there was something about the fact that out of my Great Grandpa’s garden came something that was processed into a food I loved as a kid.

He is long gone, and the land he grew that food on belongs to another family (lost due to economic issues in my Grandpa’s life) but the memory still remains.

What would happen if 1 in 6 families started growing a little garden and producing there own food? Wouldn’t it be nice to create your own garden that was EASY to maintain yet only took a few hours to manage and cultivate and gleen food from? What if you had an entire meal that you took the time to grow, harvest and prepare? I personally think that being able to feed myself with out the need of a grocery store is an awesome accomplishment.

No I am not boycotting any stores or saying we need to go back to the 1800′s. I am saying how many people know how to grow their own food anymore? What happens if we have a financial crisis personal, local, statewide, or national that messes up the food supply chain? We may have many families that are having trouble eating now, but what is going to happen when our food supply chain is broken. Looking at the signs of the times due to financial problems in the world, weather related, and natural disasters all around, our food supply chain is severly threatened. Inflation on many food items is already occurring. Just ask the person in your family who does all the buying of food? Ask them about the price of X and has it gone up. You will find a startling response.

These are just some of the things I am thinking about these days. This article stumped me enough I thought I would share and see if I can more people to start thinking about their personal situation.

Some parting thoughts:

How long could you survive if your access to the grocery store was cut off? (This could be caused by many things. Major Earthquake, Strikes, Riots, Disruption in the electric, gas or any other energy supply, or even things overseas that disrupt the food chain.)

What would you do if you couldn’t get food from the grocery store for 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks?

Do you have a pantry full of supplies that can hold you over for a day, 3 days, a week, 2 weeks?

Some things to think about.

Until the next time,

Thirteen

I am not much to want to waste my time in submitting a complaint about a restaurant that I have visited. But the experience was so bad at the Tim Hortons I went to today that I had to send the following complaint about customer service to their website.

“Having Never been to a Tim Hortons before I thought let’s try this place they seem to have a lot of them. The experience was horrible to say the least. I felt like I was haggling with a local used car sales man just to place my order. Then after we get our order started I am told that what I ordered isn’t available. To top it off what I changed my order to to suffice the “supervisor’s” inventory, they still didn’t make it correctly. I will most likely never visit a Tim Hortons again, and will make sure I tell people in my sphere of influence about this horrible place. I am not sure what your specialty is but customer service is not even on the list.”

What experiences have you had with Tim Hortons? Are they similar or did I just have a really bad experience?

I was shocked at what I found... So the questions can we predict an earthquake like this one in advance? Well this gave 5 days, at most but more likely 1 day. How prepared can you get on 1 day? Bottom line is you can't so start preparing now.

Last night I was in Culver City, CA in an office building when I heard the building begin to creak and then felt the all familiar ground movement of an earthquake. It started off weak and rolling, which I knew from experience that it was probably far off. I wondered how far away it was. Well the first thing I did was goto the USGS website to see where it was. By using the latitude and longitude coordinates from the USGS Recent CA and NV quakes page and pasting that into the search box at Google Maps I got a pin point on where the earthquake was. Then by using get directions and entering in where I was located, I found out that it was approximately 211 drive miles away from me. (Note that it is probably less distance as the crow flies.)

I was also amazed at how many aftershocks happened with in about an hour of the quake (Originally registered as a 5.9 and later downgraded to a 5.7.) I was amazed at how many 3.0 and greater quakes there were. When I left about an hour later there were over 30 aftershocks.

This got me thinking this morning on how many quakes were in the general area before the 5.7 hit. I found that just by using the data listed on the USGS recent CA and NV page I was able to sort and remove distant quakes and get a list of quakes in the area. I was shocked at what I found. But since I am not an expert in geology and other ground movement sciences I didn’t trust my filter by longitude and latitude, so I filtered the data further to just anything that containec “Ocotillo, CA”.

I found that there were 3 quakes 3.0 or greater on the Richter scale that happened before the 5.7 of last night. First one I found happened on Jun 9th at 4:02 a.m. PDT (local time.) That one isn’t sigificant because it happened 5 1/2 days prior to the 5.7. However I did notice the other 2 were both on Jun 13th about the same time. 1:42:42 p.m. PDT and 1:42:59 PDT registering 3 and 3.5 respectively.

This got me to thinking, do all earthquakes that happen give warnings like this? Could we use this to develop an early warning system, even if it were not accurate it could help save lifes I would think. We would have to avoid the “Boy who cried wolf syndrome”.

As far as the data is concerned and how we can predict quakes, I will leave that to the experts like Lucy Jones.

We are not prepared here in LA on a official level or a personal one. See this quick video blurb on a recent quake and what Lucy Jones has to say about preparedness.

So the questions can we predict an earthquake like this one in advance? Well this gave 5 days, at most but more likely 1 day. How prepared can you get on 1 day? Bottom line is you can’t so start preparing now.

Here are some sites you can visit to start getting ready, you obviously will not be completely prepared for an earthquake when it happens, nor can you either get prepared in a week (unless you have a limitless amount of cash to buy stuff.) So just do some things each paycheck.

We have 1 gallon of water per person per day for a total of 7 days. We have a water dispenser in our home and have one of the 5 gallon water bottle delivery services come by every 2 weeks to trade out or empties for full ones. We just rotate out the oldest bottles when we use them putting the newest in the back. This was an easy way to at least get the basic of basics. Most people can live a week with out food. But you don’t want to be without water for very long so that was our first step.

Another thing you can do is to purchase extra can goods when you goto the store. Buy stuff you would normally eat. Plan on rotating the stock of stuff you buy at least ever six months that way your emergency supply is current.

Here are some links to sites that can help you get started in preparing for an earthquake.

Do some research but don’t get stuck in research because you can research the best way to prepare for ever and never get any closer being prepared.

Watch this video on what would happen if a 7.8 quake were to hit on the San Andreas Fault out in the South Eastern Desert.

Get Prepared, Stay Prepared.

Until the next time,
