Outline

· Definition and Research:

o Positive regard is warmth, affection, love, and respect that come from significant others in one’s life. (Psychology custom edition for College of the Canyons, 2007, p. 458)

o How a person perceives the receipt of positive regard from a significant other will determine whether it would be categorized as conditional or unconditional. OR The difference between unconditional and conditional positive regard is how the subject perceives receiving positive regard from a significant other.

o What type of positive regard you receive will have different effects on your personality.

§ Receiving unconditional positive regard will help build an independent and confident personality.

§ Receiving conditional positive regard will help build a dependant and un-confident personality.

· Application:

o Unconditional positive regard has a large effect on my self-confidence and my feeling of self-worth. Where as conditional positive regard has an effect but because of the unconditional positive regard, the effects are minimized.

o Positive regard has an essential role in a person’s development into a successful member of society.

§ Receiving unconditional positive regard from family, friends, and mentor’s helps build a persons self-worth. Whereas only receiving unconditional positive regard at the work place may have negative effects on one’s growth in their career.

§ Receiving conditional positive regard from your manager or other authority figure can have a positive effect on your growth and need to achieve success at the work place.

o Without positive regard a person can never become fully-functioning.

What a process of emotions I went through for this exam. Most were fear, and trepidation. You know, the thoughts of I am not ready for this test, and there was way to much to study, and what do I do if I fail, etc.
When we finally recieved the test I looked it over and realized it wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. We had 40 questions and 5 essay type questions of which we had to pick 3 to answer. Each essay question was worth 5 points and the 40 question section each worth 1. Total of 55 points. I finished mine about in the middle of the rest of the class as far as time was conserned. And then awaited the results the next week.
The next week roles around and we have a substitute in our class, our instructor’s baby decided to come two weeks early and so, we were not able to get our tests back. Baby was full term and totaly fine by the way.
The following week comes around and we get our tests back from the instructor. I had missed 3 questions of the 40 and only lost 1/2 a point on the essay portion. Oh and to even out the possibility of speculation from students that would say my essay question was worth more than what you gave me, she automatically gives each student 1 point for each question answered whether it was wrong or right. So grand total out of 55 you could actually get 58. Well I recieved 54 1/2 points. Only 5 people in our class got A’s 11 poeple got B’s and 8 got C’s 3 got D’s and we had 1 F in the class. I was shocked that I was in the upper class. I was with the smart kids. This was not a place I was used to being, I normally would score in the B/C range of tests.
Basically I am on cloud nine right now considering all my points thus far put me with an A in the class. Now for the next scary part for me the “Term paper”. I managed to never write a term paper all through high school. This will be my first Term paper. The fact that I have to write 4-5 pages of material, site all my sources, and have reference pages, TOC, and other items is daunting. Granted it really isn’t that much. But for someone who has never done one, it can be overwhelming. I have 2 weeks to get a “draft” TOC done with my 3 minimum sources. Keep me in your thoughts and prayers please.
